Sir David Chipperfield was born in London in 1953. In 1984, he founded the firm David Chipperfield Architects, which has won many national and international competitions. In 2004, he was made an honorary member of the Florentine Academy of Art and Design. In 2006, he was appointed a Royal Designer for Industry. In 2009, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2010, he was knighted for services to architecture in the UK and Germany. He is currently an honorary professor at the University of the Arts London.
